Meet Effy our glowing mascot
What a powerful year. We look forward to sharing more experiences with you in 2018. With winter upon us bundle up in some art and community. Join us at these upcoming events and also be on the look out for more surprises. It is like a treasure hunt for art.
Dances for the End of the World grew out of the ashes of the Orlando nightclub shooting. What can we do? How can we contribute? Art was the answer to these questions. Since then Jeremy Hahn and Stephen Beitler travel to different locations performing intentional movement offerings as healing during these tumultuous times. Previous performances occurred in Malibu, Sea Ranch, Black Rock City and The Hammer Museum. Tap into the energy and check back for more installments to this project.
June 3rd 12:00pm – 1:30pm Camera Obscura
Please join Efflorescence artist Jeremy Hahn for this upcoming workshop. Workshops are now being held monthly at the Camera Obscura Art Lab through the City of Santa Monica. Bring an open mind and heart as you dive deep into this exploratory body based movement practice. RSVP via Facebook or show up at the studios.
About the class
Cultivating The Expressive Body is an investigative process that draws upon meditation, visualization, and movement improvisation. Class nurtures the expansion of our expressive capacities as we move our bodies encountering each other and sharing playfully with cooperation. This is deep work. We welcome all curious participants who are interested in exploring expressive movement as a mindful ritual and healing art process. In times such as these let us explore our potential through embodied practice to support an ongoing process of self-discovery.
Each monthly offering is based on a different theme. Explorations will include but are not limited to: movement improvisations inspired by imagery, visualizations, imaginative play emphasizing expressivity, mindfulness practices, meditation, breath work, ritual, moving as a solo / duet or as a group, somatic practices, drawing, building a communal altar, dynamically engaging with space, eyes closed explorations, dancing to live accompaniment or specially composed playlist, constructive rest, and exploring intentional movement as the vehicle for healing / self-discovery.
